My premium Evernote account is perfect for my work life, but I really needed something more dynamic for my day to day life. When I was searching for productivity items I came across SpringPad a couple months ago and my life has been changed.
SpringPad is arranged by Notebooks that categorize all your ‘stuff’. As you can see I have a few notebooks and I’m always adding more. Skitch [the Boyfriend] and I went to Best Buy the other night to try to find him a case for his new Android phone that didn’t suck [we failed by the way] and we wandered through the BluRay section. I grabbed my iPhone opened the SpringPad app and started to scan the barcodes of movies that I wanted to see soon. Seeing what I was doing Skitch pulled out his HTC and did the same. We got a lot of movies entered into SpringPad super quick. Now I’ll show you why this is pretty rad [aside from the sweet barcode scanning action].
Let’s say I want to add a new Notebook and put all those movies in there and do some price checking. It’s easy!
Step 1 Click the + sign, enter in notebook name & pick the color of your notebook [I like to have matching but I know some people are really into color coding].
Step 2 Go to the All My Stuff Notebook and go to the Products type. When we scanned in the movies all my stuff was automatically put in the products section.
Step 3 Look there are all the movies we entered. Notice that they all the images, the correct name and the price! It automatically adds those in when you scan the barcode. So there is like a little notebook under the image of the movie when you hover over it it says Add this product to a notebook. Click it & select the notebook. I selected Moviez naturally.
Now I just did that to all of the movies I scanned [This took about a minute to do]. Now all the movies have a 1 on the mini notebook showing that they are in a notebook.
Step 4 I went into my notebook Moviez and went to a movie [‘sup Legend of the Guardians] and look in the sidebar are the prices from price grabber. I can also like this on facebook and show my friends that I love owls. I can also add notes about the movie as well as rate it and say I’ve totally seen this [which I haven’t yet so please don’t spoil it for me].
That is one way I use SpringPad. I love the dynamic content it generates. The price checking is awesome. I also like that we can add things right into our netflix queue. Tag everything exactly how you want it and the same notes can be in more than one notebook!
Do you use SpringPad? How do you use it? What capture systems do you like best?
